autumn descends

26 Mar

The days pass by, and summer descends into autumn.  The ivy on the barracks turns from green to flaming red.  The sun rises later each morning, slow to melt through the chill fog.  And you wonder where the time slipped away to.

Now is the time to reap the last of the harvest, and to clear away the fading summertime abundance from the garden.  Feed and nourish the earth.  Time to plant the winter’s crops while there is still some memory of warmth left in the ground.

Change is in the crisp wind.  Whispering for you to prepare, to nourish your soul and stockpile your nuts and knowledge.  Be grateful for the days in the sun and feather your nest for the months ahead.  Reflect on where you are and where you want to go, for soon there will be much shorter blooms of light to illuminate your days.

I am watching hot air balloons drift across the grey-blue sky of morning.  Bright sparks of colour floating in a monochrome vista, like lazy errant thoughts.

And the seasons follow each other as they always have, yet there is something new to discover in each of them.  The relentless changing faces of life.  New growth, old growth and the constant rhythm slow persistent evolution.

a little piece of the world

10 Dec

It is truly a magical thing to have your own piece of outdoor space, a little corner of land that is your home.

What a privilege it is to be able to go outside and lie on the grass, to look up at the stars.  To enjoy the perfect sharp sounds of the night, and gaze up at the yellow full moon.  Enjoying the songs of crickets.

And then, when the sun rises and the birds sing, how wonderful it is to see the colours come to life.  Butterflies play on the breeze and the world smells green.

It is these little moments of life that make me feel amazingly lucky.

summertime

7 Nov

Summertime is spreading her wings.  Rehearsing for the change of seasons which is almost upon us, and giving us a teasing taste of days to come.

The air is heady with the living green scent of the world.  It is thick to breathe in, and full of heat and steamy summer smells.

The days are longer, and the mornings are brighter, and somehow you have more hours in every single day.

Everywhere the atmosphere is changing, preparing, livening.  People on the streets wear flip-flops and singlets and they bare their legs.  The smell of cooking barbeques wafts in the evening air.  And the slightest breeze is a sighing relief.

Aaah, summer!  Time to watch the world ripen, and to covet the luxury of cool fresh water and to squeeze every extra minute out of every extra day.

mountain vistas

6 Oct

There’s nothing like a drive up the mountain to remind you of the magic and mystery in the world which you recognised as a child.

The winding green drive; bordered by tree-ferns and mountain ash.  And those tantalising peeks to the vast land that stretches out beyond the mountain range.  Even the light is different, charged with vitality and secret life.

I remember wonder.  I remember possibility…

digging for spring

27 Aug

There is something so satisfying about getting your hands dirty.  Digging into the earth and planting life to grow.

Spring is on our doorstep and it is time to start new growth and plan for future harvests.  All around us new fresh life is starting to burst out, pale green and perfectly formed.  Flowers are starting their show and the air feels like it is getting ready..

Today has been about the spring cleaning.  Clearing away the winter weeds and preparing the ground for a fresh season.  Tonight is about the ideas, planning the next crop and the next blooms, so many things we could grow.  And then tomorrow…  Tomorrow is the first round of planting.  Such wonderful anticipation..

You spend the day out in the world, the sun (not too hot yet) overlooking your efforts and the breeze cooling you down.  You dig your hands into the earth, like a child shaping their landscape.  The smell is green and alive and intoxicating.

Whatever you plant, seed or seedling, will be growing and changing in front of your eyes for weeks and months ahead.  You are a part of life.  No matter the other mundanities that tug at you day to day, you are life and growth and change.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow.  And I am so pleased that spring is here and the cycle begins again.  I cannot wait for the next harvest and the beautiful feasts from my own grown crops.

Water Crystals – the impact of music and intention on water and on us

20 Aug

These experiments by Masaru Emoto on the effects of music and words on water are truly amazing.  As human beings are made up of 70% water it makes sense that we would be dramatically effected as well, which explains some of those deep down reactions you have to the sounds around you and the words you listen to.

In this study water from around the world was slowly frozen to form crystals (each one unique of course like any snowflake); where the water was from would change the crystal structure.  When the water was clean and healthy it formed beautiful crystals, when it was polluted it was as if it couldn’t make any structure to the crystal at all.

Then they introduced music.  We all know music makes us feel and we naturally gravitate towards sounds that make us feel full and joyous and strong, and we flinch when music seems to grate against us.  Water does the same.  They exposed water samples to different music before crystallisation, the intricate forms of the crystals responded to the sounds; most were variations of delicate beauty, but a few like heavy metal were fractured.

As this continued they then considered positive and negative language, samples were left over night with words or phrases in various languages before being crystallised.  Positive sentiments like thanks and love formed elaborate and lovely crystals, while negative statements like killing and disgust so distorted the crystals they were like polluted water.

The next time you feel an instinctual reaction to sound or even to thought, remember you are mostly water and water has great sensitivity to the stimulus around it.

Aim to be positive, healthy and surrounded by that which gives you joy.  When this is not possible, then just give yourself as much stimuli as you can find to give you a clear and beautiful inner soul.  We do all need darkness to appreciate the light.  Focusing on things that make you feel more complete will simply help you see the world in full, and make your water sing.  Be intricate and whole, choose to think positively and enjoy beauty.

sounds to soothe my soul

10 Aug

The wild wind shimmying through the trees with it’s rhythmic, whispering song.

whisper of spring

2 Aug

The first signs of spring are here.  There is still a chill in the air but the sun is shining on the garden.  The first plum blossoms have unfurled and down the street a cloud of yellow wattle changes the scenery.

This is the season of new growth and blooming possibilities.  Winter is getting ready to hibernate while spring stretches her arms across the landscape.

I am looking forward to days in the garden, and all the life that is about to wake up around us.  Spring is just a whisper on the wind right now, a hint of what is just around the corner.  That is enough to make me feel renewed and hopeful.  I am waiting for the rest of the flowers to bud and open.  Waiting for it all to begin again and bloom again and the new discoveries each day can bring.
